How does the BidButler decide when exactly to place my Bids?
Our BidButlers are instructed to be as frugal as possible when bidding. That’s why they wait until the last 10 seconds of the auction countdown to place your bids.
When there are two or more BidButlers set on the same auction, they duke it out there and then, placing all their bids immediately. This tit for tat battle means that the price and countdown both increase with each bid placed. (We do this so that bidders can easily see the auctions that will end soon unless another bid is placed).
We have a few simple rules about how your BidButler can be used - just remember these when telling your BidButler when to bid:
- You must use at least two bids when setting a BidButler: if you just want to place a single bid, just click the bid button.
- Your maximum price has to be at least one pound (£1) higher than the current end price.
- Once the bidding has reached the ‘Bid From’price at which you instructed your BidButler to start bidding, you can no longer cancel your bids.
Provided the auction hasn’t reached your BidButler’s ‘Bid From’ price, you can select the BidButler overview tab and cancel him by clicking the red cross.
Why did the auction end before my ‘Bid To’price was reached?
To control the spending of your BidButlers, they are told to use no more bids than the ‘Bids’ value you assign. If he hits his spending limit then no more bids are placed, even if the current price is below your ‘Bid To’ value.
What happens to BidButler bids that don´t get used?
Bids that the BidButler doesn’t use are credited back to your TeleBid account. This might happen when you win an auction. It can also happen if an auction ends before your ‘Bid From’price is reached, or if your ‘Bid To’price is reached before all your bids are used up.

We often get asked by people how to improve their chances of winning an auction on TeleBid.
There’s no "sure-fire" winning strategy, but here are a few tips to help you get started, as well as a few of the traps that novice bidders sometimes fall into.
Place your bid late
Watch the countdown and try to jump in and bid in the last few seconds. If the timer has reached the last few seconds, you know that it will end unless another bid is placed. (Don’t leave it too late though, or you might miss out)
Start with the cheapest products
Although you can get some incredible bargains on our most expensive items, they also tend to be the most competitive auctions, attracting hundreds of bidders. Our cheaper products tend to have fewer bidders, meaning you’re much more likely to win.
Use the BidButler to your advantage
The BidButler is a powerful tool, if you get the timing right you can scare off other bidders by placing one. Nobody likes to see their bids matched over and over again by your all conquering BidButler, you might just persuade them to give up and try again next time.
Turn their BidButlers against them
On the other hand, some people have a ‘fire and forget’ policy with the BidButler. It is easy to swoop in and win with a quick single bid if your rival has gone to make a cup of tea safe in the knowledge that their BidButler will protect them.
We’ve noticed that users tend to set the ‘Bid To’ value of their BidButlers to a round number, so watch out for this and you might be able to snap up a bargain by simply clicking on the “Bid” button when a BidButler has just finished.
Keep an eye on what other bidders are up to
You can see the details of the last ten bids placed: try to work out who’s bidding and when they’re bidding. It’s all about timing, so maybe you can work out when’s the right time to jump in and grab the lot.
Scope out the competition
Look and see how many different bidders have recently bid on an auction. You’re more likely to win if there are fewer bidders interested in the item than if there are lots of competing bidders.
Bid at the right time of day
The number of bidders varies throughout the day – smart bidders can use this to pick up bargains by bidding when others are busy having breakfast or taking the dog for a walk.
Fine-tune your BidButler
If you use the BidButler to bid on your behalf, it’s best not to set your ‘Bid To’ value to a round number – other bidders will be watching out for this (see above!).
Yes you can, but the BidButler's bids will not be consumed unless someone else places a BidButler bid, or the auction is unpaused.
You can buy bids using either your credit or debit card, or via PayPal.
We accept Visa, Visa debit and Visa electron cards as well as MasterCard and Maestro cards.
We created “My TeleBid” for registered users so that you can keep track of all the auctions you’ve bid on that are still running, as well as those you’ve asked to watch.
Simply click on 'My TeleBid' and select 'My auctions' for all auctions that you have placed a bid on, or 'My Watched Auctions' for auctions that you want to watch.
You can view the bids that you've placed most recently under 'Bid history' on the right hand side of the auction detail page, just under the BidButler section.
You can see a full bid history under Bid Account ('My TeleBid' -> 'Account' -> 'Bid account') by clicking on the '+' sign alongside every auction.
You can see the BidButler bids that you have booked on a specific item on the auction detail page. Simply click on the 'BidButler overview' tab next to the 'Book BidButler' tab in the BidButler section.
To see all of your current planned BidButler bids across all auctions, go to 'My BidButlers' under 'My TeleBid' -> 'Auctions'. Remember, these are only your planned BidButler bids and do not show BidButler bids that have already been placed."
You can always see how much you've spent in a single auction by looking at the 'Savings' section just below the 'Bid' button on the auction detail page.
To see who's bidding on an auction, just look under 'Bid history' to see a list of the most recent bidders on that auction and the type of bid they placed.
When a bid is placed, it will always be the highest bid, but might get out-bid very quickly. This can happen if there are many bidders or if there's another user's BidButler also bidding on the auction. You might not see this simply because other bids have been placed with a few seconds of each other - sometimes even within the same second!
To help you make your bidding more effective, here are some tips:
- Look at the bid history, check the number of bidders on the auction and the type of bid placed. If there are only single bids, try placing a BidButler, a BidButler can not only save you bids, but also help you to become the highest bidder.
- Try looking for a similar auction with fewer bidders, you can often find a similar product on auction at the same time with fewer users. You could pick up a bargain without needing to place as many bids.
On rare occasions we are no longer able to source the specific item detailed in the auction. When this happens, we will contact you and offer to send you an equivalent item of at least equal value. Many of the products we sell are high-technology items that have a short life-cycle, so often this will mean an upgrade to the newer version of the item.
The delivery charges for each item are shown on the auction description page.
The charges shown are for delivery to mainland UK and Northern Ireland addresses. We’re sorry, but we’re not able to deliver to the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, the Scilly Isles, Scottish Islands, the Republic of Ireland or BFPO addresses.
Delivery times vary for the different items that we auction. Most of our items are shipped directly from our suppliers, with the majority of orders arriving within 14 days of payment. We’ll let you know as soon as your item has been dispatched.
If you still haven’t received your product and it’s more than 14 days since you paid for your item, please contact our customer service team. Most of our items are shipped directly from our suppliers and will be sent soon after you have paid.

It can sometimes be useful to check the manufacturer’s website or call their helpline – many of the most common problems are easily solved without having to return the product.
In the event that the product you received is faulty, please contact us and we’ll tell you what to do next. Please, let us know the auction ID and the serial number of the product, as these help us to deal with your problem more quickly.

Firstly, congratulations - well done on winning the auction!
Confirming your win
Once the auction has ended, you’ll be automatically transferred to a page where we’ll ask you to confirm that you still want the item and explain what to do next. You’ll have the opportunity to redeem any vouchers you may have and will be told how to pay the final amount. We’ll also contact you via e-mail to explain how to do all this. Just remember to confirm that you still want the item within 7 days of the end of the auction. If you still haven’t confirmed within 21 days, we’ll assume that you’ve changed your mind and no longer want to buy the item.
Paying for the item you won
Just as for your bids, you can pay for your item by credit or debit card, or via PayPal. Please make sure that you pay within 7 days of the end of the auction. We’ll confirm you payment via e-mail and arrange for the item to be shipped to you. If the item hasn’t arrived within 14 days of our confirmation of our payment, please contact us.
We occasionally give away different types of vouchers to make your TeleBid bargains even better value. Here’s an overview of some of the different vouchers that are available:
Vouchers for new customers
As our special way of saying hello, we give all of our new customers a Welcome Voucher.
Welcome vouchers can be redeemed against the final price of an auction that you've won, not against the purchase of BidPacks, the price of an Instant Purchase, or delivery charges.
Welcome vouchers can be used with all auctions, and can only be used up to their expiry date.
Vouchers linked to special offers
We sometimes give away other vouchers, for example in return for completing surveys or during “happy hours” on the site. These vouchers may have specific restrictions and always have an expiry date. Just like Welcome Vouchers, they can only be used against the final price of an auction that you’ve won.
Redeeming your vouchers
Once you've won an auction, you'll automatically be transferred to a confirmation page where you'll be able to enter your voucher code. Don't forget to redeem your voucher, as once you've confirmed your win you'll no longer be able to use it. Please note, that if you use a voucher with a value that exceeds the auction end price, the remaining voucher credit will expire.
Fixed Price Auction
If you win a Fixed Price Auction, you only pay the price indicated in the heading of the auction (plus delivery costs), regardless of the level the bidding reaches.
Penny Auction
In a penny auction, the price rises by just one pence with each bid placed (whereas in a normal auction, it rises by 10 pence).
100% off
Where an auction is marked “100% off”, the winning bidder does not have to pay the final price. That’s right: the price is zero! You just need to pay the delivery charges.
Night Auction
We normally pause our auctions overnight between 1am and 6am, but some of our auctions run all though the night: these are our Night Auctions. We mark some auctions as Night Auctions from the moment we put them online, others will be flagged as night auctions by at least 9.30pm on the evening before they begin running into the night.
Open Auctions
Anyone can bid on an open auction, even if they have already reached their eight auction limit. Open auctions do not count towards your auction limit. See 'How many auctions can I win a month?' for more information.
20-second auctions
All auctions start as 20-second auctions. The countdown increases by a maximum of 20 seconds each time that a bid is placed.
15-second auctions
You guessed it – with these the countdown increases by a maximum of 15 seconds with each bid placed.
10-second auctions
You guessed it – with these the countdown increases by a maximum of 10 seconds with each bid placed.
Congratulations on winning an auction!
It would be great if you could register with TeleBid.com if you haven't already done so, as this makes the whole process a lot easier for everyone. But no worries we will also send you the item if you choose not to register with us. After you have won an auction, our customer service will contact you. Please do tell them your user ID, which we would have sent to you after your registration.
Confirm your auction win
After we have connected your won auction with your user account, please confirm your win. You can also redeem your vouchers under ""My TeleBid > Won auctions"". Immediately after we receive your confirmation, we will send out all important information to you via email, so that you can pay for your item.
With the confirmation of your auction win you declare your acceptance of this product to TeleBid. Please confirm your auction win within 21 days, as otherwise TeleBid will have to withdraw from the contract. Any rights or claims by the winner for delivery of the product cease in that case.
Pay for auction win
Please pay for your won item by pre payment within 7 days. We will inform you via email, as soon as we have received your payment. You will receive your invoice as soon as our suppliers have sent out the item to you. Please contact us, if you have not received any information as to the whereabouts of the item within 14 days of receiving our payment confirmation."
TeleBid auctions wake-up at 6am and go to sleep at 1am for the night. At 9.30pm some of our auctions turn into "Night auctions". Those auctions run throughout the night - i.e. they don't go to sleep at 1am like the others. You'll recognise these insomniac "Night auctions" as they're marked with a special logo and announced on the website at 9.30pm.
You can watch an auction if you click on "Watch auction in My TeleBid" in the top right hand corner of an auction detail page. The list of all watched auctions you'll find in "My TeleBid > Auctions" under "Watched Auctions".
"There are several different ways to find items on TeleBid. Here are a few different ways of looking at the different auctions on the site:
Live auctions
Please click in the drop down menu "All categories" on "Live auctions" and you will see all live auctions with their countdown.
Future auctions
'Future auctions' are auctions that will start in the future. Please click in the drop down menu ""All categories"" on 'Future auctions' and you will see some of the auctions that we plan to run in the coming days and weeks.
Ended auctions
To have a look at all auctions that have ended, please click on "All categories" and select ""Ended auctions"" - you'll see a list of all the auctions that have ended, along with the price that they sold for.
Auction ID
Every TeleBid auction has its own unique auction ID. You will find this ID underneath the phone symbol on the auction detail page (you can also see it in the address bar of your browser) . Please always state this auction ID if you have a question regarding a particular auction. "
Live auctions are auctions where the countdown has started running. Future auctions are planned to start at some time in the future, so don't yet have a countdown that's running. You can bid on both types of auctions.
You're allowed to win up to eight auctions on TeleBid over a four week period.
Why am I only allowed to bid on eight auctions at a time?
We do this so that as many people as possible have a chance of winning our amazing deals.
How does this work?
With every auction that you win, one of your eight auction slots is blocked for a four week period starting on the day of your win. From now on, you'll only be able to bid on seven auctions simultaneously, until the end of the four week period.
Where can I see how many auctions I'm currently bidding on?
In the status bar at the top of the page you can see in one glance how many auctions you can bid on. A green dot means that you have an open auction slot. A yellow dot means that you are currently bidding on an auction where you are the highest bidder. A yellow dot with a green tick shows an auction you've won: this slot is blocked for four weeks from the date you won the auction.
What counts as an auction that "I'm bidding on"?
We consider you to be "bidding on an auction" if you have a chance of winning that auction - either due to bids that you've placed or BidButler bids that you've booked. Once you're outbid or all your BidButler bids are below the current price, we no longer consider you to be "bidding on an auction" and the status dot will change from yellow to green.
An auction ends once the countdown reaches zero. An auction can also end when the date and time shown under "Auction will end before" is reached.
Auction end price
The auction end price is the price at which the auction ended. Only the winner of the auction can buy the item at that price. Sometimes there are special offers available on an auction such as such as "100% off", " Fixed price", etc. - again, these only apply to the winner of the auction.
Worth up to price
The worth up to price is provided as an indication of the price for which this product could be bought elsewhere.
International auctions are open to bidders across both our mainland European and UK web sites. If a UK winner wins the auction, we’ll ship them the UK version of the product, just as described on the UK web site. As international auctions are priced in Euros in mainland Europe where the price rises by 10 cents with each bid placed, here in the UK we increase the price by 7 pence with each bid placed. (for those of you used to converting cash for holidays, this means we use of a conversion rate of approximately £1 = €1.43)
If you win an international auction and you're a UK bidder (i.e. bidding on Telebid.com), you'll be shipped the item exactly as described in the English auction description: this will be a version suitable for use in the UK. If a bidder from mainland Europe were to win the auction, we'd ship them a European version of the item.
International auctions are marked with an "International Auction" flag, so that you can easily tell which auctions are open to everyone, and which ones are exclusively for bidders in the UK.
You can participate in TeleBid auctions with nearly all PCs that allow you to access the internet:
Supported system software:
- Windows Vista / Windows XP / Windows 2000
- Mac OS X 10.3 or higher
- Linux
- Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
- Firefox 2.0 or higher
- Opera 8.0 or higher
- Safari 2.0 or higher
- 512k broadband connection or faster
Very occasionally, users tell us that even though they bid before the countdown ended, their bids did not get placed and the auction ends. In these instances, the most likely explanation is so-called "Internet lag times". These are time-delays in the transfer of data between your PC and our servers. Mostly those delays (lags) occur because single parts of the internet connection are overloaded.
This, unfortunately, is a general problem with the internet.
There are a few ways of helping minimise this problem:
- While bidding on TeleBid do not download large data such as video or audio files from the internet.
- Don't send emails with large attachments while bidding on TeleBid.
- Make sure that no other users such as family members, etc. are using the internet while you are bidding.
FreeBids that are awarded during TeleBid marketing promotions normally expire 30 days after they were issued. Occasionally there may be FreeBids with a shorter validity, but this will be clearly displayed.
FreeBids that are won as auctions have no expiry date and are valid indefinitely.
When bidding, any FreeBids in your account are always placed before purchased bids.

If you still haven’t confirmed within 7 days, we’ll assume that you’ve changed your mind and no longer want to buy the item.
Paying for the item you won
Just as for your bids, you can pay for your item by credit or debit card via PayPal.

With each bid placed, the price of the item increases by $0.06. When you bid, we also reset the counter back up to a maximum of 20 seconds - to give someone else the chance to bid too if they're interested. If no-one else bids and the counter reaches zero, congratulations: you've won yourself a bargain on Swipeitup! .
Bids that the BidPal doesn’t use are credited back to your Swipeitup account. This might happen when you win an auction. It can also happen if an auction ends before your ‘Bid From’price is reached, or if your ‘Bid To’price is reached before all your bids are used up.
If you use the BidPal to bid on your behalf, it’s best not to set your ‘Bid To’ value to a round number – other bidders will be watching out for this (see above!).

No. You can only place bids on live auctions.
Where an auction is marked “100% off”, the winning bidder does not have to pay the final price. That’s right: the price is zero! You just need to pay the delivery charges.
You may notice that some of the auctions do not let you use our BidPal feature. This gives beginners a chance to win an item.
A live auction is an auction that has started the countdown timer. A future auction has not started but will at some point in the future.
An auction will end when the timer reaches zero.
We are also unable to deliver to APO and FPO addresses as well as Puerto Rico and protectorates.
Delivery times vary for the different items that we auction. Most of our items are shipped directly from our suppliers, with the majority of orders arriving within 14 days of payment. We’ll let you know as soon as your item has been dispatched.
Please don’t send the item back to us without contacting us – this is likely to mean that it takes longer to replace your item. If your product does need replacing, we’ll contact you and let you know what to do.
The warranties provided on goods may vary depending on the type of item that you win. Please contact our customer service team if you have any queries about the warranties or guarantees that apply to an item that you’ve won.
Please note that we can only offer a refund on the final auction price of the item you won as well as shipping costs. However, we cannot offer you a refund on the cost of the bids that you placed on that auction.
If, within 7 days of delivery, you decide you no longer want the item, we will be happy to refund the final auction price that you paid. The item must still be in its original packaging and must not be damaged. Please contact our customer service team for details of what to do, making sure to include the auction ID and your user name.

Downtime, or outage, is an occasional and unforeseeable problem with the internet, and means that bids cannot be placed during this short period when we are offline. If we experience downtime at any point, we automatically add ten minutes on to the auction end time, so that our bidders are not left at a disadvantage. It is impossible to place any bids whilst the system is experiencing downtime, so any bids attempted during this period will not be debited from your account. If this situation does occur, we advise you to refresh your screen regularly, either by pressing F5 or the refresh button on your browser.
